Celebrating workplace wellbeing – 92 County Durham organisations achieve health and wellbeing award

Writer: Better Health at Work AwardBetter Health at Work Award

Over 40,000 County Durham employees have reaped the benefits of a happier and healthier workplace, with help from the County Durham Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA). The award is a free initiative, delivered by health and wellbeing charity, Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP), and aims to encourage local organisations to improve their employees wellbeing and create a happier and healthier workforce.

Karen Stubbings, BHAWA County Durham Project Lead, said: “Since April last year, our team have supported over 92 local organisations to progress through the Better Health at Work Award. That’s an increase of 13 new businesses from last year with 46 progressing through the Award levels.

“To celebrate these achievements, we hosted a celebration event at Glow, in Newton Aycliffe. Over 36 businesses came together at the event, to be recognised for their dedication to workplace health.”

Alongside the awards, the event saw guest speakers discussing the importance or men’s health and wellbeing. Speakers included the likes of former Big Brother winner, and men’s mental health advocate, Anthony Hutton, Man Health and Andy’s Man Club.

The award aids organisations in improving and prioritising workplace health. By signing up to the award, organisations are supported by a dedicated workplace health team, helping them to improve the health and wellbeing of their staff, through a range of wellbeing activities and policy changes.

The award is structured in levels, ranging from Bronze to Maintaining Excellence and Ambassador status; these categories vary on how much support workplaces provide to their employees.

Supportive, Husqvarna, Kelly Park Limited and Smart IT supported the event, enabling PCP’s BHAWA team to highlight the fantastic work taking place in our local businesses. Kirsty Armstrong, Head of Operations at Supportive, said: “Supportive are thrilled to be a sponsor for the celebration event.

Over the last year, we have been working towards the Silver level of the Better Health at Work Award, so we have seen, first hand, the benefits the award can have, and the extent to which it can improve the health and wellbeing of employees. By supporting this event, we hope that we can encourage more local organisations to prioritise wellbeing in the workplace.”

PCP is proud to deliver the BHAWA across County Durham, Sunderland and Hartlepool, to inspire workplaces to engage with employee health and wellbeing.
